We live in a world trained to consume — buy more, want more, upgrade often.
But here’s the quiet truth: that same consumerist behavior can silently bleed into how you run your business. Business owners start 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 instead of 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⛔ Jumping from one shiny software to another instead of mastering their systems ⛔Hiring fast, firing faster, and wondering why team culture never stabilizes ⛔Chasing sales volume like it’s a shopping spree, instead of protecting profit margins ⛔Treating cash as “spendable” instead of “strategic” 🧠If you’re always looking for the next quick fix — the cheaper bookkeeper, the flashier CRM, the “guru” with a magic formula — you’re still in consumer mode.
It's not often that I network but when I do, people are often surprised that I'm an accountant. Accountants seem to have a stereotype of being dull and forgettable. Initially people are surprised with my haircut and when they find out that I have tattoos and also a 28 year old son and most importantly can carry on conversations about college football, and non-accounting related topics. Quickbooks Live Bookkeeping = Regrets I had a consultation with a # generalcontractor yesterday who has been doing residential remodeling for 20 years. His business has been doing well UNTIL he contracted with the Quickbooks Live Bookkeeping service that Intuit offers. In total, I've heard two dozen horror stories from others that have used this service and it's hard not to feel some empathy but at the same time you get what you pay for. Intuit is trying to push independent accounting firms like myself, out of the market by selling dreams of roads paved in gold for a fraction of the price of what firms like mine usually charge. What many business owners fail to realize is that users WILL experience significant financial discrepancies, missing transactions, incorrect categorization, AND poor communication with their assigned bookkeeper. This will lead to inaccurate financial reporting and potential tax issues. I can also guarantee that the virtual bookkeeper(s) will have...
Not just glanced — really understood where your business stands. For many small business owners, the financial reports collect more dust than insights. And the reasons why? They’re more common (and human) than you think: 🧠 Too overwhelming 🕒 Not enough time 🤔 Don’t know what I’m looking at 💸 Afraid of what I might find 👉 No judgment here — just data that helps us all improve.
